Bali Villa Avalon is a glorious seven-bedroom sanctuary a stone’s throw from Kayu Putih beach just north of Seminyak. Three individual villas make up Villa Avalon – the iconic four-bedroom main villa Villa Avalon I, two-bedroom Avalon II, and one-bedroom Avalon III – each set in beautifully landscaped gardens complete with private pool.

Villa Avalon III provides the perfect sanctuary for a couple who value extra privacy. Accessed via a small lobby off the living room, the bedroom features a queen-size bed and small seating area facing the pool terrace beyond a wall of glass double doors. Alongside is a positively palatial L-shaped ensuite bathroom, with twin basins, statement bathtub, rain shower enclosure, and a separate dressing room and walk-in wardrobe.

Villa Avalon III’s traditional Balinese entrance opens directly onto a lotus pond where steps lead past Buddha-head water features to decorative glass doors into the open-plan living and dining room that opens onto the pool terrace. A small lobby leads to the bedroom with ensuite bathroom/dressing room and seating area that also opens to the pool terrace. Avalon III has access to the main villa garden – a useful short-cut for those renting both villas together.

Villa Avalon III’s light-filled open-plan living room with vaulted ceiling is unusually large for a one-bedroom villa. At one end, set before double doors that open onto the sun-trap pool terrace, comfortably upholstered sofa and chairs are grouped around a glass-topped coffee table before the 42-inch TV with home theatre system. At the other end, a marble-topped counter with sit-up bar separates the beautifully equipped kitchen from the dining area, where four white leather chairs are set around a formal table.

The Villa Avalon estate is the very last private residence on a small lane that leads to Canggu’s Kayu Putih beach, with its glistening volcanic sand and awesome waves. Only a temple and a small lagoon – over which a rustic timber walkway leads to kilometres of sandy beach – lie between the villa and the ocean. La Laguna, a charming “boho-batik” restaurant and sunset bar, is a hop and skip away; even W Hotel, Potato Head and the famed bars and restaurants of Seminyak are only a 15-minute walk from the villa. A 15-minute amble inland brings you to Canggu Plaza, with its expat-focused supermarket, gelato stop and choice of eateries.
